Knoll House is one of Dorset’s best kept secrets. Based in Studland Bay, the traditional hotel enjoys views across the Purbecks – a wildlife haven and area of complete contrasts, which boasts a dramatic coastline, rolling hills and rare heathland.

During your stay, you could visit Brownsea Island to see red squirrels, go birdwatching at RSPB Arne (featured in BBC Two’s Autumnwatch) or explore one of the many surrounding important nature habitats and reserves, which include Studland Heath and Durlston reserve.

The Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, starts at Studland Bay and the beginning of the 1014km South West Coast Path is also nearby. If you’re after a more leisurely stroll, you can take a short walking route to Old Harry Rocks (three chalk formations) at Handfast Point.

Initially built as a summer retreat for the Bankes family of Kingston Lacy, Knoll House has since been enjoyed by many famous guests, including Winston Churchill, Richard Branson and Roald Dahl, and inspired others – Enid Blyton wrote her Famous Five novels here.

This two-night break includes breakfast, an Anglo-French dinner one evening and a champagne afternoon tea for two at the hotel’s new bistro. On site facilities include a pitch and putt golf course, tennis courts and indoor/outdoor swimming pools. The hotel is dog-friendly so canine companions are welcome.
